In 2008, Minority Mental Health Month was created to bring awareness to the unique struggles of people of color in the United States. Lead by author and activists, Bebe Moore Campbell, she was a champion for mental health education and support among individuals of diverse communities. She died in 2006. To honor her legacy, in 2008, the United States House of Representatives announced in July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.
